15 Things to Do With the Kids in Paros

Paros is one of the three largest islands in a cluster of islands in the Aegean Sea. Many of the surrounding rocks and smaller islands are still uninhabited, so you would be forgiven if you assumed Paros isn’t somewhere to take the family – but you’d be wrong. There are more and more families heading to Paros to get a well-deserved break, so what is it they’re doing?

  1. Boat trips to other islands such as Santorini, Mykonos and Heraklia. Weather dependent, these trips run fairly regularly and are an excellent day out for all the family.

  2. Valley of Butterflies – similar to the island of Rhodes, Paros is also home to a huge population of butterflies. Dependent on the time of year that you go, you may see caterpillars, butterflies or even both. Brilliant for any budding zoologists and nature lovers.

  3. Go to Naoussa in the evening - full of family run taverna and delicious seafood restaurants, the village of Naoussa is a popular location for an evening stroll and dinner.

  4. Go to Aqua Paros Water Park – this water park even has a slide that finishes in the sea! From places to gently float along to restaurants and eateries, a family can comfortably spend an entire day here.

  5. Regular Antiparos boat trips – less than one mile from Paros, this is a smaller neighbouring island in the Aegean sea with less than 900 inhabitants. There are caves to explore and many boat trips stop in exquisite bays for swimming and diving opportunities. Running daily in the summer months, this is an excellent day out.

  6. Go to Aliki – this small fishing village has an abundance of delicious restaurants all close to the beach. Spend a day sunbathing and swimming then find something to eat while enjoying the beautiful views over the ocean as the sun begins to set.

  7. Water sports & glass bottom boats – let your children discover their inner explorers. Glass bottom boats are better for younger children, while the water sports are more suited to braver, adrenaline junkie teenagers.

  8. Shopping – from pottery and ceramic studios to jewellers you will surely find a souvenir to take home with you. You can browse a variety of fashion items and local, handmade gifts and trinkets, which make the shopping in Paros perfect for the entire family.

  9. Kolymbithres beach – clear shallow waters, white sandy beaches aren’t the only attraction of this stunning beach. Kolymbithres is also known for its huge surrounding rock formations. Plenty of food and drink options available as well as parasols and sunbeds.

  10. Caves in Paros – there are plenty of caves to discover during your stay in Paros. Some of the most famous however, are actually on Antiparos. A cool 240ft underground you will be able to see the stalagmites and stalactites. Keep your eyes peeled for the carving where Lord Byron signed his name.

  11. Lefkes is the picturesque village you imagine when picturing a Greek island. Enjoy exploring historical and quaint villages, medieval buildings and blue and white domed churches up in the mountains of Paros. Enjoy a picnic on the hillside or stop in a quiet café for something to eat.

  12. Thanasis Farm – in Naoussa this outdoors activity centre is perfect for animal lovers and horse riders. Welcoming all abilities, you can swim with horses as well as go trailing on horseback. You can meet the donkeys and other animals on the farm, too. The Greek family owners are incredibly warm and welcoming.

  13. Folklore Art Museum Of Cycladic Civilization – in the village of Aliki, one man has built an entire miniature Greece civilization. This highly intricate and beautiful masterpiece includes miniature stadiums, boats and castles. It’s a must see as it is a one of a kind attraction in Paros.

  14. Paros Park is a protected area of the coast made up of more than 80 hectares. You can learn about history, walk and hike here, see the rock formation and caves as well enjoy any shows in the outdoor amphitheatre. In the summer, you can also go to the seaside open air cinema. ‘The Island of Paros through Russian Cartography between 1770 and 1774’ is always on exhibition here in the Ai Yiannis Detis monastery. With plenty of food and drink available you can spend an entire day here with something for the whole family to enjoy.

  15. Sea Kayaking in Paros – try something new while you’re on holiday and explore some of the most beautiful coastlines in Greece in a sea kayak. It’s an easy activity for everyone to pick up and a hugely relaxing way to spend the day. Take it at your own pace and enjoy what the coast has to offer.
